Mahila e-Haat

An online marketing platform for women.

It will provide access to markets to thousands of women who make products and are spread all over the country

The initiative is unique since this is the first time that the government will help women to sell products online.

This empowerment of women will take place in three stages in which Mahila E-Haat is the first stage. In the second stage, it is planned to integrate it with e-commerce portals to provide a larger platform for selling and buying. Ultimately it will culminate into Women’s Entrepreneurs Council which will help to expand this initiative further and give it an institutional shape.

Eligibility:-

Participation in e-Haat is open to all Indian women citizens more than 18 years of age and women SHGs desiring for marketing their legal products/services after indemnifying RMK from any or all acts of transaction.

3. The Seventy Third Amendment to the Constitution in 1993 inserted new Articles from 243A to 243O. 
1. The amendments provided that not less than one third of total number of seats in a panchayat or municipalities shall be reserved for women.
2. The amendment also provided at least one-third Chairpersons of the panchayats or municipalities shall be reserved for women.

This workshop is being organised by National Institute of Disaster Management in association with Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Policy Perspectives Foundation (PPF) and the World Animal Protection. 

Aim:

To sensitize the State Animal Husbandry Departments in exploring strategies for effectively managing the animal welfare needs during emergencies and protecting the livelihood of communities reliant on them for survival. 

National Framework for Elimination of Malaria

National Framework for Elimination of Malaria 

This framework has been developed with a vision to eliminate malaria from the country and contribute to improved health and quality of life and alleviation of poverty.

Objectives:

1) eliminate malaria from all low (Category 1) and moderate (Category 2) endemic states/UTs (26) by 2022; 

2) reduce incidence of malaria to less than 1 case per 1000 population in all States/UTs and the districts and malaria elimination in 31 states/UTs by 2024; 

3) interrupt indigenous transmission of malaria in all States/ UTs (Category 3) by 2027; 

4) prevent re-establishment of local transmission of malaria in areas where it has been eliminated and to maintain malaria-free status of the country by 2030.

Zika Virus

Zika Virus

Zika virus disease is an emerging viral disease transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. This is the same mosquito that is known to transmit infections like dengue and chikungunya.  Belongs to the family Flaviviridae

Zika virus was first identified in Uganda in 1947.

It usually have symptoms that can include mild fever, skin rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise or headache. These symptoms normally last for 2-7 days.

Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) 

Declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO). The declaration is promulgated by that body's Emergency Committee operating under International Health Regulations (which are a set of laws that govern global responses to pandemics involving 196 member countries)

It designates a public health crisis of potentially global reach.The deceleration was announced at three times

1. 2009 - Swine flu declaration
2. 2014 - Ebola declaration
3. 2016 - Zika Virus declaration

World Wetlands Day

World Wetlands Day 

“Wetlands for our Future – Sustainable Livelihoods” is this Year’s Theme 

Based on the Ramsar convention, signed in 1971. It is for the conservation and sustainable utilization of wetlands, recognizing the fundamental ecological functions of wetlands and their economic, cultural, scientific, and recreational value.

Ramsar is a city in Iran. Wetlands help recharge groundwater aquifers, cleanse polluted waters, protect shorelines and act as sponges to mitigate floods. The extensive food chain and biological diversity in wetlands make them ‘biological supermarkets’. 

The theme highlights the value of wetlands in securing local livelihoods through activities as fishing, rice farming, tourism, and water provision.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will continue to accord high priority to conservation and wise use of wetlands in the country. 

The National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystems (NPCA) provides the policy framework and support to State Governments for integrated management of wetlands. 

The National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystems:

It is combination of two schemes, National Wetlands Conservation Programme (NWCP) and the National Lake Conservation Plan (NLCP).

Aim is for holistic conservation and restoration of lakes and wetlands for achieving desired water quality enhancement besides improvement in biodiversity and ecosystem through an integrated and multidisciplinary approach with a common regulatory framework.

Road Safety Week

Road Safety Week from 11th January 2016 

To create awareness among general public to improve the safety on road and to give an opportunity to all stakeholders to contribute to the cause of road safety.

Activities include display of banners, road signage and pamphlets related to road safety. 

Also organized a ‘Walkathon’ from India Gate on 11th January, 2016 in association with Delhi Police and Society for Indian Automobile Manufactures (SIAM) to create awareness about road safety among general public and to solicit their active participation in the road safety movement. 

In India, about 1.4 lakh persons are killed in road crashes every year while many more get injured and disabled for life. Youth in the age group of 15 to 24 years comprise 33% of the total fatalities. 

The Government is taking active steps for the implementation of National Road Safety Policy by improving the engineering of roads, improving enforcement, improving emergency care and taking up awareness campaigns for citizens.
